Art and Design Exhibition Set in the Yucatán Jungle
“Finding Creativity and Identity In Between Spaces”
October 23–28, 2025
Yucatán, Mexico
N E P A N T L A has closed its doors
But the story continues
N E P A N T L A has now closed its doors, yet its spirit endures.
Over a thousand visitors crossed its threshold, bringing voice, emotion, and presence to this space suspended between nature and creation.
Our deepest gratitude to every artist and designer who gave form to this vision — and to each soul who made N E P A N T L A come alive.
Though the exhibition has come to an end, its dialogue continues.

A Continuation — N E P A N T L A through Film
The experience of N E P A N T L A does not end — it transforms.
Through Arin Pereira’s lens, its atmosphere and intention take new form.
The Shape of Nothing invites us to linger within that space between presence and absence, matter and spirit.
“This very short film looks in-between process, form and object, where nothing exists and everything holds together, the essence of Napantla, an immersive art exhibition exploring themes of identity and transformation through various artistic mediums. In collaboration with Design Week Mexico, N E P A N T L A is curated by Nadia Guitteau of ALRATITO Studio and Angela Damman, at Hacienda San Juan in Yucatán, Mexico (October 20205). Angela Damman is a designer participating in this exhibition, known for her sustainable, handwoven pieces that celebrate local craftsmanship and cultural heritage.. Four of the artists participating in Neplanta appear in the film, as does the work of Angela Damman and the weavers of the Maya Youth Artisan Initiative. (Nepantla is a Nahuatl word meaning “in-between-ness.” ).” Arin Pereira
About
Curated by Nadia Guitteau, founder of ALRATITOstudio, N E P A N T L A is an immersive exhibition of photography, sculptural furniture and objects, textiles, ceramics, and paintings. Juxtaposed within the raw Yucatán jungle and the ruins of a partially restored henequen factory, N E P A N T L A unfolds not within four walls but in a living landscape.
A Nahuatl word for “the in-between”, N E P A N T L A is the experience of being at the intersection of cultures, languages, and identities, and finding creativity and power within these spaces. It embraces the generative friction of transition. The jungle itself becomes a passageway for N E P A N T L A, with each work occupying a liminal zone between wilderness and civilization, past and present, body and spirit.
N E P A N T L A will feature work by both up-and-coming and established artists from Mexico, United States, and Cuba. Their contributions expand the dialogue between contemporary practice and ancestral presence, reflecting themes of transformation, material memory, and spatial storytelling.
As part of N E P A N T L A’s community programming, the exhibition is partnering with the Iniciativa de Artesanía Juvenil Maya (IAJM), a grassroots initiative based in Hocaba, Yucatán. IAJM empowers young Maya women to preserve and reimagine the ancestral art of weaving henequén on backstrap looms. They will be collaborating with designer Angela Damman and architect Luis Arturo García of EDAA, on an architectural intervention celebrating the region’s rich cultural heritage.
N E P A N T L A is held in cooperation with Design Week Mexico.
